The Carolina Hurricanes placed goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov on injured reserve Tuesday, calling up defenseman Gavin Bayreuther from AHL Chicago.
Kochetkov lost to Tampa Bay 6-4 in his last appearance on December 20. Head coach Rod Brind'Amour says Kochetkov will have surgery to repair a nagging lower-body injury and will likely miss the remainder of the season.
The Canes also claimed center Noah Philp off waivers from Edmonton. Philp played in 15 games for the Oilers this season (2g, 1a). Bradly Nadeau was sent to Chicago in a corresponding move.
