The Carolina Hurricanes signed forward Jordan Staal to a one-year contract extension for the 2027-28 season late Tuesday night. The deal will pay Staal a base salary of $900,000, with a $4 million signing bonus and up to $5.1 million in additional performance bonuses.
“Jordan is not only our captain, he’s the bedrock of the culture we’ve established in this organization,” said General Manager Eric Tulsky. “His leadership and on-ice performance throughout last season and especially in the playoffs was a primary factor in bringing the Stanley Cup back to Raleigh.”
The 38-year-old registered 20 goals and 16 assists for 36 points in 75 regular-season games with the Hurricanes in 2025-26. He added 12 points (8g, 4a) in 19 playoff games, helping the Hurricanes win the 2026 Stanley Cup and winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Thunder Bay, Ontario native has registered 499 points (198g, 301a) in 972 career games with the Hurricanes, ranking second in franchise history in games played, fourth in assists and fifth in points.
